Guess What!

Imagine you had to pre-move a position, and your opponent knew you were guessing.

Beta Testing note

This is a Chess Variant in beta testing. Please share feedback, bugs or tips to improve on my Discord

Currently 1 player, you are White and the engine has a crude guessing logic.

2 player server coming soon

1. The Objective

Checkmate. All Chess rules and mechanics remain the same.

2. What is a Guess Move?

On designated turns, you must make your move without seeing your opponent's most recent move.

The move history may show ??? for a hidden move. The board may not show the opponent's latest move either.

You must use your memory, deduction, and knowledge of chess to work out what might have happened.

3. White's Blind Moves

  • White's 5th move
  • White's 15th move
  • White's 25th move
  • Every 10th White move after that

4. Black's Blind Moves

  • Black's 10th move
  • Black's 20th move
  • Black's 30th move
  • Every 10th Black move after that

5. Making a Blind Move

  • Select one of your pieces on the visible board.
  • Choose where you want to move it.
  • Your attempted move is checked against the actual game position.
  • If the move is illegal, try again.

A piece may have moved or been captured during the hidden move. What you see may not reflect its true position.

6. The Move History

The move history is displayed beside the board. Blind moves are highlighted in yellow, and hidden moves may appear as ???.

Use the history to remember the moves that led to the current position.

7. Strategy Tips

  • Remember which squares pieces may occupy.
  • Consider several possible opponent moves.
  • Watch for potential captures and checks.
  • Avoid plans that depend on one exact position.
  • Think ahead before your blind turn arrives.
